We all know that feeling. The one where your heart races, your palms get sweaty, and you feel like you can’t breathe. You might be scared, or excited, but either way the experience is exhilarating. For some people, this only happens when they’re in danger. But for others, it can happen when they’re doing something as mundane as driving to work.
For those people, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of a good drive. This is probably one of the reasons why things like track days have become more and more popular over recent years. These experiences allow the man on the street to test their driving skills in cars or on motorbikes they could only ever dream about owning.
These days there are lots of different options available that give people the opportunity to get their speed fix. So irrespective of whether you want to put your handbrakes to the test and execute a perfect drift, or wheelie past the finish line, there is something for you. If you’re one of those people who loves to feel their heart racing, then these five driving experiences are for you! From tearing up a desert to racing around a track, these five drives will get your adrenaline pumping in no time!
Track Days
Track days are not the sole domain of petrol heads. Let’s face it, most of us at one time or another have watched Formula One and thought, I bet I could do that !!! Now while you may not be able to drive an actual Formula One car, there are lots of packages that allow you to test out your driving skills in some kind of supercar. This includes famous makes such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin (I mean, what man doesn’t fancy himself as James Bond?). There are venues nationwide offering these track days including household names like Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.
Off-roading
Driving round and round a track at high speed is not for everyone. Some people want to go off grid and do some off-roading in a 4×4. Off road driving will allow you to experience mud, water and a multitude of other tricky landscapes. Be prepared to tackle steep hills, narrow unprepared tracks and streams. Not only is off road driving testing but it is also great fun and definitely something everyone should try at one time or another.
Karting
Many people think that go karts are just for kids, but that couldn’t be further from the truth as these machines are powerful and not as easy as it may seem to drive. Karting is a sport that caters for all abilities and as such is a great option for things such as corporate and team building days. There are lots of indoor and outdoor kart tracks throughout the UK and your day and experience can be tailored to meet the skills and requirements of your party.
Motorcycle Track Days
Don’t worry if your preference is to get your thrills on two wheels, there are lots of venues that offer motorcycle track days. They cater for everything from novice riders who will be able to enjoy instruction to more experienced riders who can test their ability on a track in a racing environment. Unlike car track days riders are required to bring their own bike, there are no speed restrictions, but organisers insist everyone abides by track regulations and rides within their own limitations.
Formula One Simulator
Now we mentioned earlier that you won’t be able to drive an actual Formula One car, so why not try the next best thing – a Formula One simulator day? There are lots of options available online at reasonable prices. While it may not be the real thing you should remember that all Formula One drivers use simulators to familiarise themselves with tracks and to brush upon technique. You will be able to experience the thrill of racing around some of the most famous racetracks in the world.
The things listed above are just five of the options open to you if you fancy getting your adrenaline fix and spending a day or two honing your driving skills. We hope you enjoyed our article. If so, feel free to share it among your family and friends!
